The book tells the story of a barn swallow, a monarch butterfly, and an eel who live on a farm, watched by a barn cat (who looks and awful lot like our barn cat, Dave). The story follows them gently through the seasons, and their life cycles. The illustrations are beautiful, and the story is engaging and twaddle-free. It held the attention of all five of my little ones from 10 months to 10 years. At the end of the book is an addendum containing more information about life cycles and migration, suitable for older children to read independently, or for the parent-teacher to use for further lesson planning.
